We are thrilled to share the success of our recent technical evening, which featured visitors from the Institute of Quarrying (Devon & Cornwall Branch) and the Cornish Institute of Engineers (CIE). This event was a fantastic opportunity to introduce the Critical Minerals Equipment Hub (CMEH) at the Camborne School of Mines, to a diverse and engaged audience.
Key Features of the Evening
The evening began at the Camborne School of Mines (CSM) Mineral Museum, located at the Penryn Campus, University of Exeter, Cornwall. Attendees gathered for an opening presentation setting the tone for an informative and engaging event. Following welcomes and introductions, participants toured the Camborne School of Mines and CMEH facilities, experiencing the state-of-the-art equipment and resources firsthand. This included laboratory tours of the Critical Minerals Analytical Room, Mineral Processing Lab, and Deep Digital Cornwall Visualisation Hub. This was followed by a fruitful networking session networking fostering connections and discussions among attendees.
Insightful Lectures
The evening continued with a series of insightful lectures including:
- General Update from the Camborne School of Mines by Professor Patrick Foster
- Critical Minerals in the Southwest: CMEH Project Overview & Offering by the CMEH Team (Professor Frances Wall, Dr Hadi Mohammadi and Technician Ben Keverne)
- Continued Professional Development (CPD) at CSM by Dr Robert Fitzpatrick
- Laboratory Technician L3 Apprenticeship Discussion by Tom Lal from Truro & Penwith College
Presentations provided valuable insights into the latest developments and future directions of the CMEH, alongside the broader mineral processing industry and educational sector.
Attendees and Represented Organisations
Core Hub partners Paterson & Cooke, Petrolab and Bluecap Resources were on hand to give their specialist commercial insights, and together we were honoured to host attendees representing a wide range of esteemed organisations, including Cornwall Council, Cornish Metals, Cornwall Resources, Gravity Mining, Wardell Armstrong, Chepstow Plant, Sibelco, Aggregate Industries, and many more.
A Glimpse into the Future
The successful technical evening marks a significant milestone in our journey towards establishing the Hub as an accessible and affordable resource for enterprises, exploration companies and researchers looking to expand their capabilities with the help of expert advice and equipment. We look forward to more such events that bring together industry experts, academics, and enthusiasts.
Dr Hadi Mohamadi commented after the event, “Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a resounding success! We look forward to reaching out and working with fellow critical minerals experts in 2025.”
Stay tuned for more updates and future events as we continue to drive progress and excellence in mineral processing.
